Purpose


The SI Regional Conference Scholarship is awarded to individuals who have provided outstanding
academic support in the role of SI Leader, with significant contribution both to student success and to
the success of the Supplemental Instruction Program on their college or university campus.

 

Award


A one-time cash award of $350.00. The scholarship award will be presented at the SI Regional
Conference and will be paid directly to the recipient.
Eligibility*
1. Must be a student enrolled at an accredited community college or university campus located in San
Bernardino, Riverside, Orange, San Diego, or Los Angeles county for either the current academic
term, the term immediately previous to, or the term immediately following the date of application
2. Must have served as an SI Leader for a minimum of two full terms in the past academic year
3. Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher
4. Must provide all of the required materials for consideration on or before the submission deadline
*The SI Regional Conference Scholarship is awarded without regard to race, sex, religion, age, national origin or
sexual orientation. The selection process is based solely on the qualifications of the applicant.

 

Selection Criteria
The award recipient will be selected based his/her demonstration of outstanding service as an SI Leader,
including:
1. Exceptional understanding of peer led academic support in a small group environment
2. Highly effective SI leadership (use of innovative learning strategies; strong rapport with students,
faculty, and staff; measured student success; etc.)
3. Commitment to student success
4. Quality contribution and impact to student learning and the development of SI within the applicant's
institution

 

Application Requirements
1. A 250-500 word personal essay on the value of Supplemental Instruction in the applicant’s own life,
in the life of the students served, and in the context of the larger academic community
2. One letter of recommendation from the applicant’s campus SI Coordinator, Supervisor, or Program
Director
3. One letter of recommendation from a faculty member (course instructor, department chair, etc.)
who has worked with or directly observed the applicant in his/her role as an SI Leader
4. A current college or university transcript with cumulative undergraduate or graduate GPA
